Gujarat to Seek Odisha’s Help in Combating Cyclone Vayu

Ahmedabad: As the cyclonic storm ‘Vayu’ is fast moving towards the north and is expected to hit the Gujarat coast on June 13, the state administration is reportedly seeking the help of Odisha in combating the natural disaster.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that the officials concerned are in touch with the Odisha government to learn and implement the disaster management techniques adopted by them when cyclone Fani hit the eastern coastal state recently, media reports stated.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone Vayu is expected to hit the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva with wind speed up to 120 kmph on June 13.

The Gujarat Government has declared a holiday for schools and colleges on June 13 anticipating the impact of the cyclonic storm.

The entire coastline of the State, starting from Kutch to south Gujarat, has been put on “high alert.

The Chief Minister said that people living in the coastal belt would be shifted to safer places.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Odisha Government for its massive evacuation drive ahead of cyclone Fani that hit the State on May 3.

The Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led Odisha Government has also received wider appreciation from the international media and the UN for its preparedness to combat the natural disaster.
