Odisha Scientist Mrutyunjay Mahapatra Appointed as India’s Permanent Representative with WMO

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s noted scientist Mrutyunjay Mahapatra has been appointed as the Permanent Representative of India with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO).

Mahapatra, who is better known for accurate cyclone prediction, currently serves as the Director General (DG) of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Prior to his appointment as the DG, the renowned scientist was holding the post of ADG of the IMD.

Mahapatra had also served as the Head of Cyclone Warning Division and Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre (RSMC)-Tropical Cyclone, New Delhi.

Before joining the IMD in 2005, Mohapatra had worked in the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratory in Chandipur after completing Masters in Physics.
