Odisha Incurs Loss of Rs 11,942 Crore Due to Cyclone Fani, Says Preliminary Govt Report

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has incurred a loss of Rs 11,942 crore due to the extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ that hit the State on May 3, according to a preliminary report released by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department on Wednesday. 

The report has been prepared based on the initial damage assessment report provided the Collectors/DMs of the cyclone-affected districts. It highlights losses incurred by various departments of the State government. 

 As per the report, the Water Resources department has incurred loss of Rs 37,301.20 lakh, while Works department suffered loss of Rs 59,732.30 lakh. 

Loss of Rural Development Department stands at Rs 43,717.68 lakh and Housing and Urban Development Department Rs 52,434.87 lakh.

Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water department reported a loss of Rs 58,703.33 lakh and Rs 10,230.53 lakh by Agriculture department. 

Loss of other departments: 

Energy Department: Rs 1, 15,980 lakh 

Fisheries & Animal Resources Department: Rs 5,543.97 lakh

ST and SC Development, Minorities and Backward Classes Department: Rs 592.24 lakh

Women and Child Development Department: Rs 7,248.50 lakh

Textile and Handloom Department: Rs 7431.36 lakh 

Cooperation Department: Rs 1741.44 lakh

Higher Education Department: Rs 29,600 lakh

Health and Family Welfare Department: Rs 1,276.25 lakh

Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities  (SSEPD) Department: Rs 1,825 lakh

Labour and ESI Departmen: Rs 78 lakh 

Forest and Environment Department: Rs 53,780 lakh

Tourism Department: Rs 1,917 lakh

School and Mass Education Department: Rs 1,094 lakh

Skill Development and Technical Education Department:  Rs 3,057 lakh

Electronics & Information Technology Department: Rs 1,374.39 lakh

Industries Department: Rs 15,269.07 lakh

Odia Language Literature and Culture Department: Rs 7,274 crore

Similarly, properties worth Rs 510 lakh of Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri has been damaged and Rs 6,76,756 lakh has been spent towards relief and response.

The Odisha government has incurred a loss of Rs 11,94,268.13 lakh (Rs 11,942 crore approximately) in total, the report said.
