Surada BJP Candidate Arrested For Damaging EVM Control Unit

Berhampur: The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Surada assembly constituency Nilamani Bisoi has been arrested by the Surada police for damaging the Electronic Voting Machine Control Unit.

The incident happened today when Nilamani entered the polling booth number 182 in Renti village of Surada constituency in the afternoon and damaged the electronic unit. The booth had 539 voters and out of them 414 voters had cast their votes.

He also used foul language to the polling party engaged there. According to the Aska SDPO Suryamani Pradhan, the presiding officer gave a written complaint to the IIC Surada police station in this regard after which Nilamani was arrested.

The situation was tense for some time after the incident. However, Nilamani has refuted the allegations and said he had demanded repoll in the booth alleging rigging.
