Bargarh: With fear of possible debacles in the first phase elections in Odisha, the BJP is reportedly using all possible divisive tactics to influence the voters ahead of the second phase Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the State.
The saffron party is using Skill India officials as poll agents for the party. The officials are campaigning for the party in Bijepur in Bargarh district. They are trying to influence the voters with tall promises, while the poll observers are turning a blind eye at the objectionable tactics, sources said.
BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is contesting from Bijepur assembly seat for the first time keeping request of people of Western Odisha, apart from seeking fifth consecutive victory from his traditional Hinjili constituency in home turf Ganjam district.
It is well know that the BJD supremo has personally monitored the developmental works of Bijepur, a promise that he made during the by-poll to the constituency last year. The BJD had registered landslide victory in the election. The constituency also witnessed significant development works since then.
As the Chief Minister is contesting from Bijepur, it will have far-reaching impact on Western Odisha politics and will also further brighten the prospects the BJD in the ensuing elections in the region. Therefore, the BJP is adopting all sorts of divisive tactics to woo the voters in Bijepur, sources said.
The Skill India officials are reportedly trying to influence the people with the promise of skill development and employment. As per sources, the officials are also distributing cash to the voters.
Surprisingly, the poll observers are remaining silent despite being aware of the blatant violation of model code of conduct by the central government employees.
