Bhubaneswar: With the first phase elections completed in Odisha, the Bharatiya Janata party is feeling the heat. A good percentage of voting along with the voter’s mood has made the party jittery. All the four parliamentary segments that went for polling in the first phase were with the Biju Janata Dal. While the BJD had won the Berhampur, Koraput and Nabarangpur constituencies comfortably the BJP was in the third position after Congress. BJP had got less than 10 percent votes in these seats in 2014. In kalahandi the party was in second position. So, what is the factor that made the BJP claim that it is going to win all the four seats this time? The hollow claims are just an outcome of the fear that the party is nowhere in the race. Though in Kalahandi the BJP was in the second position in 2014, this time it is not going to retain that. The party candidate Basant Panda is seen as an outsider in Kalahandi. Also the BJP lacks the ground strength of party cadre. Hence the loss will be huge for Basant this time. This time the BJD is in a better position and going to win all the four with greater margin. This has led to chaos in the BJP camp. Its high pitched campaign has failed to fructify.
When one moves in a dark lane, he or she makes loud sounds to keep the fear at minimum. It seems the same phobia is running with the BJP in Odisha. With the passing of each day, the Biju Janata Dal’s high voltage campaign and the ground strength are pushing the BJP into darkness. And to get away from the darkness and the fear of defeat BJP is making hollow claims that it will win all the seats that went for polls in the first phase held on 11th April.
With the polling process in the state in its peak, one thing is getting clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party is losing ground and making empty noises. With every passing day the leaders of the party are bringing in new jumla’s to woo the voters and vows to win seats. Especially Dharmendra Pradhan, who thought it better not to fight than loose, is making the pitch ugly and dismal. The Manifesto of the State BJP has nothing for the State of Odisha. It remained silent on the Mahanadi issue. It did not mention about the mining royalty. The Special category status has been sent to the back burner. These are the major issues that the Biju Janata Dal is trying to raise at the center. And in reality these are the real issues that people of Odisha aspire.
Instead of facing the people of Odisha with these issues, Dharmendra Pradhan is making mockery of these aspirations. The clever voters of the state will give a befitting reply to the false promises of the BJP in the elections. The BJP knows better that it will never come to power in Odisha and hence there is no problem in making false promises.
According to political analysts, the claims of BJP to win 4 Lok Sabha seats of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Berhampur and Kalahandi is the biggest joke. BJP lacks a clear vision for Odisha. Hence, they are making noises. The speeches of the leaders have become the proverbial empty vessel that sound much.
