Daspalla: Biju Janata Dal president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today asked the BJP to name its chief ministerial candidate in Odisha where Assembly polls are being held simultaneously along with the Lok Sabha elections.
Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his call for double engine growth by electing BJP governments both at the Centre and in Odisha, the BJD supremo, while addressing an election rally in Daspalla under Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituency in Nayagarh district, asked the saffron party to name its Chief Ministerial candidate and which constituency the candidate was contesting from.
Is the BJP afraid to declare its CM candidate?, Naveen asked.
People of Odisha want to know who is the second engine of the BJP’s double-engine, the BJD chief said.
Earlier today, Naveen campaigned extensively for his party candidates in Aska Lok Sabha constituency.
The Chief Minister said the Aska Parliamentary Constituency will set a new record by electing a grassroots level woman SHG member to the parliament and four women candidates to the Odisha Assembly.
Taking a dig at the opposition, the Odisha CM said that his party has fielded woman candidates while the BJP and Congress have given tickets to the candidates having criminal backgrounds.
They (BJP and Congress candidates) are contesting the elections returning from jail on bail, he added.
Ganjam is the land of Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja and of Kabi Surya. The people of Ganjam are peace-loving, Naveen said.
Both the BJP and Congress have conspired to disturb the peace in Ganjam, the BJD president said.
Both Aska and Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituencies will go to the polls in the second phase on April 18.
