Aska: The Aska Parliamentary Constituency, which was represented by illustrious leader and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, is going to create history and show the rest of the country the real meaning of women empowerment, said Biju Janata Dal President Naveen Patnaik today.
The constituency will set a new record by electing a grassroots level woman SHG member to the parliament and four women candidates to the Odisha Assembly, Naveen said while addressing a massive election rally here.
Taking a dig at the opposition, the Odisha CM said that his party has fielded woman candidates while the BJP and Congress have given tickets to the candidates having criminal backgrounds.
They (BJP and Congress candidates) are contesting the elections returning from jail on bail, he added.
Ganjam is the land of Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja and of Kabi Surya. The people of Ganjam are peace-loving, Naveen said.
Both the BJP and Congress have conspired to disturb the peace in Ganjam, the BJD president alleged.
The Aska Lok Sabha has a special significance for Naveen Patnaik as he started his political career from here in 1997 with a victory in the by-poll held after the death of his father and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, who represented the constituency.
Naveen said that the development of this constituency is always his priority.
Earlier today, the BJD chief addressed a mega election rally at Tumudibandh in Baliguda Assembly constituency under Kandhamal Parliamentary segment where he slammed the Centre for neglecting the development of the farmers of Odisha.
He said that the KALIA scheme was stopped due to the conspiracy of the BJP-led Central government.
Reiterating his government’s commitment towards farmers’ development, the Odisha Chief Minister said that no one can stop KALIA till he is alive.
More than 40 lakh farmers in the State have been benefited under the scheme, Naveen said while adding that not a single farmer would be deprived of the scheme.
He also assured that all the farmers will be given two installments of financial assistance under the innovative scheme on the day one of the formation of the new BJD government in the State.
Besides attacking the Centre, the BJD supremo sought the blessings of the people during his address.
