Mumbai Bridge Collapse: Death Toll Rises to Six

Mumbai: The death toll increased to six in the foot over bridge collapse at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station in Mumbai on Thursday evening.

An FIR was lodged against officials concerned of the Central Railway and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) under section 304A, media reports said.

A big slab of the foot over bridge came down crashing at around 7.20 pm injuring several pedestrians, reports added.

Personnel from NDRF, Mumbai Police, Fire Brigade and other rescue agencies reached the spot and immediately evacuated those buried under the debris. They were immediately shifted to hospitals.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the accident site earlier today. He also met the victims.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Priya Dutt came down heavily on the State Government over the mishap.

“Shocking that the cst foot over bridge which was supposedly audited 6 months back has collapsed, It’s sad that we still cannot provide safe infrastructure for our hardworking people of Mumbai. In grief, I pray for the victims and their families”, she said in Twitter statement.
