KALIA Outweighs BJP and Congress When It Comes to Farmers Empowerment

Bhubaneswar: The lukewarm response given to the Bandh call given by Naba Nirmana Krushaka Sangathan (NNKS) has proved that the people have outrightly rejected their agenda. More so, the farmers of the state have showed confidence in their Government by not becoming puppets in the hands of the two political parties - the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress- that supported the Bandh today.

The statewide bandh call given by the NNKS has received almost neutral response as there was no disruption to public life and negligible law and order issues. Except in some urban pockets of the state, life was normal in the state. While Government offices functioned without disruption, rail and road transport communication were also almost normal in districts. Farmers from Western and Southern Odisha not only rejected the Bandh call but also criticized the NNKS for trying to disrupt normal life. Markets and financial institutions remained closed briefly, but opened later.

Likewise, petrol pumps were also seen open at almost all areas. The NNKS, which boasted of the support of the farmers of the state, had to relent as there was negligible presence in the protest rallies. This proves clearly how the people of Odisha, especially the farmers, have showed confidence in the Government and its flagship scheme KALIA. It is definitely going to neutralize the farmer cards being played by the BJP and Congress. The people have made up their mind and it is going to be clearing the coming elections.
