Elections 2019: Internal Survey Giving Sleepless Nights to BJP!

Own Pre-Polls Survey Giving Sleepless Nights to BJP

New Delhi: With barely a few months to go for 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the results of an internal survey conducted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are reportedly giving sleepless nights to the saffron leaders.

The survey results came as shocker for the BJP as the party is facing the threat of losing considerable number of seats in its stronghold states that helped it to form government at the Centre in 2014.

As per the survey, the BJP is likely to get major setback in Uttar Pradesh, even though the State is currently ruled by the saffron outfit. In order to compensate the loss in the UP, the BJP is in search of pre-poll partners.

The BJP conducted its own surveys in several states, including Uttar Pradesh to access the moods of the voters ahead of the elections. The findings of survey brought a gloomy picture for the party as it is likely to lose as many as 51 seats in this key northern State that sends 80 MPs to the Lok Sabha. In other words, the BJP will have to satisfy with just 20 seats in UP, a sharp decline from 71 seats that it won in 2014 elections.

As Uttar Pradesh is crucial to the BJP in the upcoming elections for having highest number of Lok Sabha seats, the party is now making efforts to forge an alliance with the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). As per reports, the RLD leaders are showing strong displeasure at the Samajwadi Party (SP)-Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) alliance on seat-sharing agreement.

In Maharashtra, the BJP is having tough times in dealing with its key ally Shiv Sena, which has been criticizing the Modi government on a range of issues every now and then.  So, the BJP is skeptical about whether the Shiv Sena leaders will lend their support in the upcoming General Elections or not.

On top of that, the BJP’s position is not so strong as it was during the 2014 elections in other key states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. The survey indicated that the party may get the considerable success in these states in the ensuing elections.
