Lokayukta to Start Functioning from 8 April, Odisha Govt Informs SC

New Delhi: The Lokayukta will start functioning in Odisha from 8 April, the State Government informed the Supreme Court on Monday.

An affidavit submitted to the apex court by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on behalf of the Odisha Government mentioned that the appointment process of Lokayukta will be completed by 31 March and the anti-corruption ombudsman organization will start functioning from 8 April.

Earlier, the apex court had directed the State Government to fix a date for appointment of Lokayukta in the state and asked the Chief Secretary to appear before it.

In compliance with the directives, the Odisha Government formed a seven-member search committee to recommend names for the selection of Lokayukta on 10 December last year.

The search committee was formed at a high-level meeting of the selection committee headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Guest House.

The Odisha Assembly had passed the Lokayukta Bill on 14 February 2014.
