Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today dedicated 38 new ‘Aahar Centres’ to the people in 38 urban areas in 17 districts through video conferencing from State Secretariat here.
With the addition of new centres including a centre at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, nearly one lakh cooked meals will be served to the poor and needy people daily, an official statement said.
Previously, the daily capacity was 85,000 meals.
The Aahaar program, launched on April 1, 2015, now caters to all the 114 urban areas of the State, while emphasizing on ‘Quality and Cleanliness’ as the Hallmark of the food serving centres.
In view of the popularity of the program, the Chief Minister had launched inclusion of night meals in ‘Aahar’ scheme from January 1 this year making the facility available at 56 major hospitals across Odisha. It helps patients and their relatives, who come to the hospitals to avail one meal for Rs 5 only.
The State Government has also unveiled Aahar Odisha web portal to encourage people to participate in the program and donate provide foods to the poor on the occasion of birthdays, marriages, marriage anniversaries and death anniversaries of their near and dear through the ‘Aahar’ centres.
