Mahanadi Tribunal Urges Odisha, Chhattisgarh to Resolve Water Sharing Dispute Amicably, Final Verdict on 9 March

Bhubaneswar: The Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal today urged the Odisha and Chhattisgarh governments to resolve the water sharing dispute amicably and posted the final verdict pronouncement on March 9.

The three-judge Tribunal bench headed by Justice Khanwilkar has completed its hearing on the interim application, in which Odisha had pleaded for 1.74 million acre-foot water during the non-monsoon months.

The Tribunal directed both the States to submit all the requisite data and information with proof within two weeks.

 It also said that the final verdict will be pronounced on March 9 if the solution as directed by the Tribunal is not reached between the two States.

The Tribunal had directed the Odisha Government on December 15 to submit an affidavit citing detailed information on the rainwater flow in Mahanadi over the last 20 years.
