Bhubaneswar: After former parliamentarian Baijayant Panda's dubious financial transactions came under the Income Tax scanner, demand for action against him in political circles is getting louder.
The Biju Janata Dal has come down heavily on the former MP, alleging that it has been proved now that Baijayant is a businessman and he is in politics just to safeguard his business interests. Baijayant used his political clout to benefit his business empire.
The ruling party further said that it is with this intention that Panda was always writing in national media louding various policies of the Center. In 2014, Baijayant Panda lobbied hard to become the chairman of the Standing Committee on Finance at the center. But , party president and Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik , citing conflict of interest , did not pay heed to his ambitions. Thereafter, sensing interruption to his business interests, Jay Panda, upped the ante against his party.
Meanwhile party spokesperson Sasmit Patra has demanded immediate action from the center. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always been voracious in his speeches to act against people involved in money laundering and Black Money. In this regard, the Biju Janata Dal hopes that the center will take strong action against Baijayant Panda, Sasmit said.
