Chhatrapur: It is a pride moment for Odisha and India as well as V. Ramesh Rao, a resident of Gilitapeta area of Chhatrapur subdivision of Ganjam District, will represent India in wheelchair fencing at the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports (IWAS) World Games in Dubai. The games will be held in Sharjah of Dubai from 10 to 16 February.
Ramesh is the only Indian who has been selected in the Wheel Chair Fencing event. He has left for Dubai to participate in the games.
Ramesh is very proud to have been selected in the event as the only Indian for the games. He is aiming and determined to win the title in the event.
He was selected for the 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia that was held from 1-14 October 2018.
After his brilliant performance at the 11th National Wheelchair Fencing Competition held in Imphal, Manipur, Ramesh was selected for the Asian Para Games 2018.
He has been participating in major national and international wheelchair fencing competitions since 2011.
Ramesh was qualified to pre-quarter finals round in Wheelchair Fencing World Cup held in Poland in July 2018.
In the 11th National Wheelchair Fencing Competition in Manipur he won two gold medals in group and one silver and one bronze medal in individual category.
He had also vice-captained Indian team at the 2010 Sitting Volleyball World Cup in the USA.
Ramesh, who hails from a poor family, feels proud being selected for IWAS World Games. He is confident of winning a medal for the country.
