Chhatrapur: Odisha BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra, who was supposed to appear before the Chhatrapur police, failed to appear today citing health condition and has asked one month time for the same.
According to sources, Mohapatra’s lawyers appeared before the Chhatrapur police and appraised about Mahapatra’s inability to appear before the police on health ground.
Meanwhile, sources close to the development said the Chhatrapur SDPO Ramesh Chandra Sethi will decide the next date for Mahapatra’s appearance.
According to reports, the think tank of the party had decided that Mohapatra should appear before the police with his lawyers only unlike party workers but at the eleventh hour, the plan was changed, sources revealed.
Meanwhile, speculation in the political circle is that Mahapatra resorted to ill health to avoid police questioning in the murder case.
Mahapatra found himself in the soup in Chhatrapur Councillor Laxmidutta Pradhan murder case of 2017.
Earlier, police had slapped a notice for his appearance along with party General Secretary Bhrugu Buxipatra on January 30. He had already been quizzed by Chhatrapur Police in connection with his alleged link with one accused in the case on Nov 1, 2017.
The police have so far arrested at least 18 persons in the Laxmidutta murder case and filed the charge sheet, while few others are still at large.
On September 16, 2017, the slain councillor was hacked to death with swords in front of his home. Two held accused in the case have revealed before the police that Mohapatra had facilitated their stay in Dehradun after the crime.
