Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated the second high level bridge on Mahanadi river here fulfilling the long-standing demand of the people of Sambalpur District.
The Chief Minister dedicated the Rs 117.72 Cr bridge to the people during his one-day visit to the district.
The 1,500 metre long and 14.8 metre wide bridge with 1.5 metre-wide foot paths on both the sides, will reduce the distance between Sambalpur town and Chanarpur area by 25 km.
The much-awaited bridge, the foundation stone for which was laid by Naveen Patnaik in January 2015, will also open a new route to Bargarh side which has reduced the distance to Bargarh about 25 km.
The bridge has been a long-pending demand of the people of Sambalpur district, especially the villagers of Chanarpur panchayat and other nearby villagers as they had to travel an extra 26 km to reach main town.
With the opening of this bridge, the connectivity between Sambalpur town and its nearby villages such as Chaurpur, Sikirdi, Kansinghari, Baijamunda, Putapali, Khabsipali, Mundoghat, Tihinkipali, Bagbira, Basantpur will be improved tremendously.
It will also make the travel to Central School, CRPF office, Sainik School, Gangadhar Meher University, Odisha State Open University and Ghanteswari shrine much easier.
Besides it, the Chief Minister also laid foundation stones for a nurses hostel at Burla , a students’ hostel of VIMSAR, a drug research centre at Sambalpur, the Bhutapada- Dhankauda road, a bridge over Dhobijor between Nari Seva Sadan and Jail chowk, a road over bridge near Hirakud.
He also inaugurated 19 completed projects of the district.
