Dhanu Jatra Kansa Seeks Blessings

Dhanu Jatra Kansa Seeks Blessings before Performance

Bargarh: World’s largest open air theatre the famous Dhanu Jatra is here. The entire Bargarh District has been converted into legendry Mathura and the main attraction of the jatra, Maharaj Kansa, is ready to dominate the district.

This year, demon Kansa role will be played by Bhubaneswar Pradhan. Ahead of the jatra he has taken the blessings of family member of Late Yudhistira Sathpathy at Talmenda, his native village. Who had played the historic role of Kansa earlier.

Pradhan sought the blessings of Jambobatti Sathpathy wife of Yuddhistira on this occasion.

In 1999, the Dhanu Jatra Committee brought Bhubaneswar Pradhan for the role of Kansa. Owner of an opera party, Samaleswari Gananatya, Pradhan is an artist by profession.

The festival is based on Krishna Leela and Mathura Vijay. The story begins with the demon king of Mathura, Kansa, also uncle of Lord Krishna, ascending the throne and concludes with his death.

The 11-day festival which kicks off today will conclude on 21 January.
