Bhubaneswar: In a major blow to the BJP ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Odisha visit, several of party workers joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) here today.
Inspired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s strong leadership and development works, more than 300 BJP workers from Rairangpur assembly constituency in Mayurbhanj District left the saffron outfit and became the members of the BJD.
The BJP workers joined the BJD in the presence of party supremo Naveen Patnaik at his residence here.
The latest development is seen as a setback to the saffron party as frequent visits by Modi to Odisha has failed to tackle the exodus problem of Odisha BJP.
Modi is scheduled to address a public rally in Balangir on 15 January as part of the BJP’s high-voltage campaign for 2019 elections.
