New Delhi: In a significant development, Alok Verma has been removed as CBI Chief on Thursday.
According to reports, Verma was removed after the Selection Panel met at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home this evening.
The Committee removed Alok Verma from the top post of CBI 48 hours after Supreme Court, scrapping the government’s October order sending Verma on compulsory leave and replacing him with an interim CBI director, reinstated him as the boss of the investigating agency.
After joining his duty, Verma had cancelled the transfers of 10 officers and transferred five others over the last 24 hours.
According to a letter issued by the government, Verma has been posted as director general, fire and services, civil defence & home guards for the residual period of his present term, which ends on January 31 this year.
The letter also said that M Nageshwar Rao will take over the duties of the director, CBI till the appointment of a new director.
The decision for the removal was taken by a majority with Kharge opposing the move.
